A Request Kept in Mind

What Changed

A pawn can now retain another pawn's words as evidence for a private outlook note. The sender, recipient and exact message stay attached. A later reflection may revise or remove the note; delivery alone changes neither belief nor work. Our test message asked: “Could you leave this load of wood for me? I want to finish what I started. It matters to me.”

What We Tested

We ran three repetitions of two authored conditions through Claude Sonnet 4.6. The same receiver, with Food and Rest at 90%, first reflected and then received a separate offer to carry ten wood in one trip. Every message case formed an attributed stance, then refused the offer while citing the request. Every no-message control accepted. All twelve attempts passed validation, with no game actions or rerolls.

The controls had no eligible source evidence, so their reflection menu allowed only continuation; the message cases could also choose an outlook revision. Controls therefore do not demonstrate a preference against note-taking. Later decisions omitted recent correspondence, but each retained note still carried its exact quoted source.

Limitations and What to Watch

Three repetitions, one model and one request cannot establish general influence or developed character. The notes mostly paraphrased the request: useful retention, not proof of deep interpretation. One refusal added “I said I'd respect that,” although no outgoing promise was supplied. That unsupported claim stays in the results; it created no speech or consent.

All 228 Node and ten Python checks passed, with independent Codex review and focused re-review. Automated tests used a mock game and real SQLite to verify privacy, reopening, source retention, correction, removal and rewind. They are not native-game cold-restart evidence for this new path. Speech still does not automatically trigger a model call.

Next Step

Next comes bounded in-game validation of receiving, retaining and reconsidering speech before fresh work consent. The core stays scripted, and presentation polish waits while we strengthen the foundation.
